Oswego Seed Library

Public Libraries have expanded their place in communities; they are perfect organizations to promote and facilitate creative projects and community partnerships.  With the growing concerns of where our foods come from, the Library Learning Center and the Oswego Center for Sustainability wish to facilitate the accessibility of non-GMO, heirloom seeds to the community while providing educational resources and support.

A majority of our seeds originated from the community garden.  Our community gardeners have been kind enough to donate these seeds that the public can then “borrow”, just as they would borrow books, with the intention of planting, harvesting and then saving the seeds from the best of their harvest.  Ideally, local growers will then return some of these seeds for others to borrow in the future.  Our goal is to focus on sustainable projects, providing local, reusable resources while promoting self-reliance and community initiative.
